Thematic Dossier: Research Incubators in Dentistry

In Colombia, research training in higher education among most disciplines promotes a model based on Research Incubators that is part of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation. Beyond the students' individual efforts to conduct and complete their thesis/dissertations, this model seeks to ensure that research learning and experiences are anchored in institutional strengths and developments and stimulates a culture of research. Research training and the organization of dental research seedbeds are led by the group of school members of the Colombian Association of Dental Schools–ACFO (acronym based on the Spanish name), which created an interactive network named Research Incubators in Dental Schools–SIFO (acronym based on the Spanish name). Learning of future professional researchers and/or clinicians who base their practice on scientific evidence is solid through research incubators experiences. We are inviting all young researchers who have participated or are currently participating in research incubators to submit manuscripts of their studies for peer-reviewing and possible publication in the Research Incubators in Dentistry dossier that will be published in Universitas Odontologica, volume 42 of 2023.

For the Research Incubators in Dentistry dossier, we are receiving original studies with documentary, qualitative, observational, and experimental designs that explore different questions in the various dimensions of the dental profession (clinical, basic and laboratory research, administration, education, etc.). The requirement is that such works are or have been part of a Research Incubator. Likewise, we will receive manuscripts of institutional case studies that relate and analyze the experiences, strategies, practices, and results of Research Incubators in each of the schools/faculties and, even, documents that describe and analyze this model in a more comprehensive way research training in Colombian dental schools. Finally, we will receive papers from countries other than Colombia that have training models similar to the research incubators in dentistry.

How to Submit an Article for Publication in the Dossier

ALL manuscripts must meet the submission requirements that are described on the journal’s website and must be submitted for evaluation through, http://www.javeriana.edu.co/universitasodontologica. The maximum accepted length of manuscripts is 5000-7000 words (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and Recommendations, for original research and literature reviews), without counting references. The maximum number of tables and figures altogether is eight (8). Manuscripts received for the dossier on Research Incubators in Dentistry and our other established sections are first evaluated by the journal’s general and guest editors, who examine the documents for compliance with the style, presentation, and methodological criteria. Articles that pass this screening go through the double-blind peer-review process. Each article will have at least two peer reviewers or referees who are external to the institution where the manuscript originates and, if possible, from other countries. The articles that complete the peer evaluation process will be included in volume 42 of 2023 of Universitas Odontologica.
