Ética en la vida y el pensamiento del cardenal Newman

Abstract

Entre las obras del cardenal John Henry Newman, filósofo religioso y apologista del siglo XIX, reconocido especialmente por su análisis sobre la relación entre fe y razón, no se encuentra un trabajo específico referido a la ética. Sin embargo, este intelectual y creyente, quien se empeñó en demostrar que su fe era razonable, no dejó de formular planteamientos sobre el bien, la virtud y el deber, es decir, sobre la moral. Además, el estudio de su vida permite hablar de un «ethos newmaniano» caracterizado por la actitud crítica, la decidida interlocución pública y el cambio, tres elementos que explican el curso del itinerario hacia la verdad que siguió
el célebre converso y escritor inglés.
