Abstract
La tendencia actual de la historiografía colombiana, se ha orientado desde algunos años hacia la historia regional, tratando de utilizar fuentes nuevas, representadas especialmente en la riqueza de los archivos parroquiales. Se trata de reconstruir especialmente la historia demográfica de una localidad.
El presente trabajo se orienta en este sentido. Está concretamente referido a la región de Macheta (Cundinamarca) y los aspectos más representativos de su población durante el siglo XVII y primera mitad del siglo XVIII.
En su elaboración se han utilizado los datos obtenidos en el análisis del Archivo Parroquial de Macheta y en algunos fondos del Archivo Histórico Nacional de Colombia. Se reproducen en apéndices algunos de los documentos utilizados en el estudio y se reseña la totalidad de la producción bibliográfica de la que se toman algunos datos o con la que, explícita o implícitamente, se entra en diálogo a través de estas páginas.
