Editorial Process

Universitas Medica accepts unpublished submissions in the following document categories: original research articles, integrative reviews, and derivative reviews.

  1. The journal's editorial assistant receives the manuscript and verifies that it meets all submission requirements established in the editorial guidelines.

  2. An initial review is conducted by the editor or associate editor, who evaluates the thematic relevance, structure, content, document type, and quality of the manuscript to decide whether it will be sent for peer review or rejected.

  3. The manuscript is sent to two external peer reviewers, either national or international, under a double-blind review process. Based on their expertise, the reviewers will determine whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected. In the case of a split decision, a third reviewer will be assigned to resolve the evaluation.

  4. The evaluations issued by the peer reviewers will be analyzed by the editor or associate editor, who will request the necessary adjustments or corrections to ensure the highest quality of the manuscript. Authors will have 10 to 20 days to make the requested changes and respond to the reviewers' comments.

  5. The revised manuscripts are sent to the editor or associate editor, who will determine whether the adjustments are sufficient or if a new peer review is required. If no further review is necessary, the manuscript will proceed to copyediting. Original research articles are translated into English, a service provided by the journal free of charge.

  6. Authors will conduct a final review of the manuscript, approving the final version after copyediting and translation. Additionally, they must submit the signed license agreement.

  7. As part of the journal's visibility strategies, authors are invited to complement the publication of their article with a video of up to 2 minutes that includes:

    • Justification of the research topic's importance.
    • Concise and relevant description of the objective and key findings.
    • Evidence of the article's contribution to health sciences practice.
  8. Online publication. Authors will be notified once their manuscript has been published.
