Abstract
El objetivo de este documento es el de mostrar las tendencias recientes de la transición sanitaria
de los países de Europa Central, de Europa del Este y de los Nuevos Estados Independientes
(NEI) de la Unión Soviética frente al reto del ingreso a la Unión Europea. Este ejercicio se
justifica dada la transformación acelerada de las diferentes sociedades europeas, lo cual permite
entender que la crisis de la asistencia social de los tres grandes sistemas europeos de seguridad
social durante el siglo XX -Beveridge, Semashko y Bismarck-, es común a la experiencia
de los sistemas sanitarios de todo el mundo. El conocimiento de estas tendencias, permite identificar
similitudes y diferencias con la experiencia latinoamericana que se pueden explicar, en
parte pero no exclusivamente, por los principios de la economía neoclásica, las cuales contribuyen
al análisis de nuestra política sanitaria y de sus instituciones, con especial referencia a la
historia reciente del mundo quince años después del fin de la sociedad bipolar.
