Abstract
La migración de grandes contingentes de habitantes del Sur hacia los países de altos ingresos
se ha agudizado en la última década, como consecuencia de la polarización socioeconómica
entre países y el empobrecimiento extremo al interior de los países del sur, ambas situaciones
inducidas por las políticas neoliberales de la globalización. A pesar de ello, todavía son pocos
los estudios sobre el impacto que estos fenómenos sociales tienen sobre la salud mental de los
trabajadores que migran y los familiares que se quedan.
La pregunta que guió esta investigación fue, ¿desde que perspectivas de la salud mental se ha
estudiado a estos grupos de migrantes en México como país expulsor y en España como país
receptor?
La metodología se basó en datos de fuentes secundarias, artículos publicados y estadísticas
nacionales sociodemográficas y de salud mental, los que fueron reinterpretados a la luz de las
ciencias sociales, la medicina social y la salud colectiva.
Las conclusiones van en el sentido de que se trata de un problema emergente de salud pública
que amerita ser estudiado con mayor profundidad desde la perspectiva de los determinantes
sociales y la equidad.
