Abstract

This article compiles the historical process of health care and its influence in Nursing's conception and evolution, where the need of going deep in the past come from because it is there where may clues of the present and future are found. Acording to the historical process, the health care is divided in four stages: domestic, vocational, technical and professional. Each one of them let you see the evolution of care's meaning that was initially understood as life maintenance to confront the difficult environmental conditions. With a care vocation focused in charity, submissions and obedience until it became a new conception of nursing and the beginning, development and consolidation of health care as a distinctive element, belonging only to certain discipline.
