Abstract

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the plasmatic concentration of lidocaine with and without vasoconstrictor, by using infiltrative technique in oral tissues. METHODS: The sample consisted of 19 healthy adult patients, 20 30 years of age, and weight 41-85 Kg. Patients who had received any medicament during the last 15 days before the study or suffering from allergies to any component of the anesthetic solution were excluded. Every patient received a dose of lidocaine 0,6 mg/Kg without vasoconstrictor and the same dose of lidocaine with adrenaline 1:80000 5 weeks later. The anesthetic was applied in the upper premolar region by using infiltrative technique 1 mL/min. Samples of blood 5 mL were taken at 10, 20 and 30 minutes when anesthetic without vasoconstriction was applied, and at 20, 40 and 60 minutes adrenaline was used with the anesthetic solution: Samples were analyzed through immunoassay. RESULTS: The average maximum concentration (Cmax) of lidocaine in plasma was 0,34 μg/ml at 20 min., without vasoconstrictor. The average Cmax with adrenaline was 0,27 μg/mL after 30 min. CONCLUSIONS: The Cmax in plasma with and without vasoconstrictor after the administration of lidocaine 0,6 mg/Kg, through infiltrative technique, showed these procedures are safety for the patient. The anesthetic technique is really important to minimize the patient’s risk.
