Abstract
Este documento hace una revisión comentada sobre múltiples versiones sobre el canibalismo, a partir de crónicas, interpretaciones de antropólogos, historiadores, y literatos, remarcando el carácter dual del fenómeno, como realidad e imaginación.
El canibalismo generalmente se ha relacionado con la antropofagia, y en gran medida eso es cierto. Sin embargo, el concepto de canibalismo es el resultado de una construcción histórica que confunde el término caribe con caníbal, y que termina involucrando varios aspectos que pronto se le volvieron inherentes, complementarios y hasta sinónimos, como las técnicas de guerra indígenas, el carácter indomable, la belicosidad, y la sodomía, entre otros.
