Abstract

Dysphagia is considered one of the new geriatric syndromes, prevalent in this age group due to the multiple comorbidities and the aging process that can generate anatomical and physiological changes and decrease the functional reserve. In addition, it generates deficiencies in multiple systems, leading older adults to a state of fragility. Among its many causes is hyperthyroidism with a low prevalence, but due to the good prognosis of recovery with drug treatment, it becomes a topic of interest not only for geriatrics and endocrinologists but also for primary care physicians. Therefore, we will present the case of a nonagenarian patient with esophageal dysphagia and unintentional weight loss, etiology related to hyperthyroidism, with improvement in her nutritional status after pharmacological management.
