Abstract

Among the controversy that rises from discussing art practice as research, this article adds another discipline to the debate, theater arts. This article problematizes theater practice under the light of theater and performance theory in order to locate the discipline within the conceptual framework developed in the debate. Specifically I look at what could be indicative of research within theater practice. For this purpose, this article undertakes the
review of some journals that have theater as their subject matter. Finally, it proposes a possible framework that could open up a path for the theater
arts within the policies that endorse academic research used at Colombian universities. And briefly, at the end, the article presents the academic model
used in Brazil and compares it with the Colombian.
