Resumo
Resumo: Objetivo. Descrever as percepções de médicos sobre os cuidados no final da vida (CFV) em pacientes oncológicos em três hospitais de média e alta complexidade em Popayán e Bogotá em 2019 e 2020.
Método. Foi utilizado um plano metodológico transversal descritivo que consistiu na aplicação de um questionário autoaplicável aos médicos que mede a percepção dos médicos sobre os CFV fornecidos aos pacientes oncológicos durante o último mês de vida.
Resultados. Foi identificado o falecimento de 341 pacientes e 261 respostas foram obtidas de seus médicos responsáveis pelo tratamento (taxa de resposta de 76,7%). 70% dos médicos consideraram que a morte não foi consequência de intervenções médicas e 85% classificaram as estratégias terapêuticas como paliação sintomática. Em 87% dos casos, os médicos indicaram que se sentiam confortáveis em relação aos CFV dados aos pacientes. 48% e 73% dos médicos afirmaram não falar com familiares ou pacientes, respectivamente, sobre a possibilidade de acelerar o final da vida em decorrência das intervenções ou não intervenções.
Conclusões. Os médicos estão muito interessados no final da vida e nos CFV em pacientes oncológicos. Os médicos se sentem confortáveis com o atendimento médico prestado. A baixa comunicação com o paciente ou seus familiares durante esse período pode ser uma área de grande melhoria.
