Abstract
Objetivo: valorar el efecto de dientes de porcelana y acrílico en los procesos residuales en pacientes desdentados totales. Métodos: se realizó un estudio transversal en 193 pacientes desdentados, quienes usaban dentaduras desde hacía más de cinco años y en quienes se analizó la altura de los procesos residuales. Los pacientes se clasificaron por medio de los criterios de Atwood. La significancia estadística de las hallazgos con los diferentes materiales fueron analizadas con la prueba χ2. Resultados: los pacientes con dentaduras con dientes de porcelana presentaron procesos planos en un 29,41%, mientras que los procesos planos en dentaduras con dientes de acrílico fueron el 7,74% (p < 0,001). Conclusión.: como ya está descrito en la literatura, las dentaduras con dientes en porcelana se asocian frecuentemente procesos de pérdida severa de altura
