Abstract

Background:Condylar hyperplasia is an abnormal growth that affects the temporomandibular joint caused by hyperactive cells in the mandibular condyle. Thought to be relatively rare, the exact frequency of this condition is unknown. High condylectomy is one of the surgical treatments for this. Objective: To describe the clinical, radiographic, and histological characteristics of the pathology of two patients with active condylar hyperplasia, in order to emphasize the specific surgical treatment of condylar hyperplasia without the need for additional management with orthognathic surgery and its satisfactory evolution. Presentation of cases: The presentation of two clinical cases of active condylar hyperplasia in young female and male patients respectively, which refer to observing changes both in the face and at the dental level related to asymmetry, which were managed by surgical intervention of condylectomies on the right and left side in the order given. Conclusions: Condylar hyperplasia is a pathological disorder characterized by generating asymmetries and facial deformations, deviations, malocclusions, functional, aesthetic and psychological alterations, with condylectomy being the procedure of choice in active HC, which can be complemented with orthognathic and orthodontic surgery.
