Abstract

Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) has become a diagnostic test for therapeutic purposes in patients with OSAHS. This test makes it possible to observe the dynamic behavior of the upper airway in a state similar to real sleep, which makes it useful and approximates the reality of the pathology. Objective: To describe the findings obtained by DISE in patients with OSAHS at the San Ignacio University Hospital. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study based on the review of clinical records of patients with OSAHS from the HUSI, treated in the Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery service between 2017 and 2020. Results: 89 patients with an average age of 47.71 years were included. The majority were overweight and severe Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI). The greatest obstruction in the upper airway was in the velopharynx. The maneuvers were effective in the vast majority of patients and the Body Mass Index is related to the effectiveness of the maneuvers and the predisposition to adverse effects. Conclusion: DISE must be essential in patients with OSAHS to be used in order to individualize treatments according to each patient.
