Abstract
En el sector salud colombiano se busca limitar Ia integración vertical entre Entidades Promotoras de Salud (EPS) e Instituciones Prestadoras de Servicios de Salud (IPS), para evitar prácticas restrictivas de Ia competencia. Sin embargo, Ia evidencia empírica señala que no es concluyente el efecto de Ia integración vertical sobre Ia competencia entre aseguradoras. El trabajo plantea esta hipótesis sobre Ia base de Ia evidencia teórica y empírica, y muestra que Ia integración vertical no tuvo efectos sobre Ia competencia de Ias EPS del régimen contributivo en el período posterior a Ia aplicación de Ia restricción del 30% de contratación entre aseguradores y prestadores de servicios de salud.
