Abstract

Introduction: Three cases of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), diagnosed before pregnancy, and were evaluated at the Department of Maternal-Fetal and birth control during the Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, level IV referral center serving pregnant population high risk obstetric pertaining to contributory scheme. 

Objective: To describe the clinical presentations of the pathophysiology, etiology and clinical features of MS, as well as their behavior during pregnancy.

Methodology: Electronic search was
conducted in PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane using the keywords to collect information in both English and Spanish from 2000 to 2011. After review articles were selected and research in multiple sclerosis and pregnancy.

Conclusions: There seems to be a lower risk of relapse during pregnancy and especially during the last quarter. However, it is followed by a high probability of relapse within three months, as observed in two cases described in this study.
