Abstract

Objective: It is the purpose of this article to present sacroiliac joint dysfunction syndrome as a cause of 13 to 30% of low back pain which can be treated by percutaneous rhizotomy by radiofrequency. 

Materials and Methods: 16 patients were attended consultation from July 2007 to January 2013, for presenting back pain with clinical features and radiological findings suggestive of dysfunction of the sacroiliac joint syndrome. A total of 16 percutaneous radiofrequency rhizotomy were performed by the same observer (JCA). The analysis was completed with data from the clinical history, and the patients were followed up for one year.

Results: It was found that 75% of patients showed improvement of more than 50% of the pain, by using the visual analog scale. Of these, 25% had greater an improvement greater than 75% pain.

Conclusions: Treatment with percutaneous rhizotomy by radiofrequency under fluoroscopic vision can reach very favorable results.
