Resumo
Objetivo: Caracterizar la población de los pacientes hospitalizados en la Unidad de Otorrinolaringología y Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital Universitario San Ignacio desde febrero de 2001 hasta octubre de 2012.
Materiales y métodos: Estudio retrospectivo, observacional, de los pacientes registrados en la base de datos de la Unidad de Otorrinolaringología y Cirugía Maxilofacial por un periodo de 11 años. Las variables que se estudiaron fueron: sexo, grupo de edad y diagnóstico principal.
Resultados: Se logró determinar la frecuencia demográfica de nuestra población hospitalizada. Se obtuvieron datos de sexo, edad y diagnóstico de los pacientes hospitalizados.
Discusión: La frecuencia de hombres y mujeres hospitalizados fue similar. La mayoría de los pacientes estuvieron dentro de los 18 y los 59 años de edad. Las patologías más frecuentes fueron las de oído. En los hombres fue más frecuente el trauma craneofacial, y en las mujeres, la celulitis facial de origen odontogénico. El 2010 fue el año en que más pacientes fueron hospitalizados.
Conclusiones: Por medio de la información recolectada se obtuvieron datos suficientes acerca de la población hospitalizada en nuestra unidad, los cuales pueden ser útiles para la planeación de nuestro servicio.
