Resumen

El cáncer es una enfermedad crónica no transmisible que ha ido en aumento dada la transición de la pirámide poblacional, reportando alta prevalencia en mayores de 65 años. Dado la evidencia limitada frente a esquemas de tratamiento en adultos mayores, se han evidenciado desenlaces adversos, como toxicidad, ya sea cutánea, cardiovascular, nefrotóxica o neurológica, compromiso cognitivo y muerte, lo cual impacta la calidad de vida de los pacientes y la adherencia al tratamiento. Se han estudiado diversas escalas de riesgo en oncogeriatría para valoración de toxicidad, sin embargo, no se encuentran validadas en Colombia. En esta primera parte de la serie de dos partes tiene como objetivo sensibilizar a los médicos no oncólogos frente a la detección temprana de síntomas asociados a toxicidad secundarios al tratamiento con quimioterapia, radioterapia e inmunoterapia en pacientes ancianos. La segunda parte presentara herramientas de tamización de riesgo de deterioro en la salud en una persona anciana y los beneficios de una valoración geriátrica integral ante un paciente anciano con cáncer. También se darán unas pautas sobre el proceso rehabilitatorio y el cuidado paliativo.
