Abstract
Urinary incontinence is a frequent pathology which affects women predominantly. The physical discomfort and associated inconveniences it produces affect quality of life significantly. It can be classified as effort incontinence, urge incontinence and mixed – type incontinence; effort incontinence is the most frequent type. Medical treatment isn´t always effective and many patients persist with symptoms even after starting it. We present the case of a patient with urge incontinence from detrusor hyperactivity that was treated with the implantantion of a sacral nerve neuromodulation system. The patient improved more than 80 % in all measured parameters. Urinary frequency returned to normal, nocturia disappeared, she has no pain and has no need to use diapers or protective pads. Quality of life related to urinary function is normal.
