Abstract

Introduction: Dengue, Zika and Chikunguya viruses are endemic in the department of Valle del Cauca, this delicate scenario allows us a probable viral co-circulation, in a pregnant population, asymptomatic, without diagnosis and with a high risk of presenting neurological disorders associated with intrauterine Zika virus infection. The identification of geographic areas of circulation of these arboviruses in our department is the initial step in the search for multiple-infection detection for the prevention and timely surveillance of possible outbreaks of congenital disorders associated with Zika infection.

Objective: To determine and characterize the behavior of the Dengue-Zika-Chicunguya viral co-circulation from the positive cases of Valle del Cauca, during the years 2015-2019.

Materials and methods: A descriptive study of the spatial and temporal distribution and of the Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya viruses will be carried out, between the years 2015-2019, in the department. The cases reported in SIVIGILA will be spatially located with GIS (geographic information system).

Results: Suggestion to Dengue and Zika surveillance protocols. Production of scientific articles that allow the consolidation of the research groups involved.

Conclusions: Generation of scientific evidence for the improvement of Dengue-Zika co-infection protocols and surveillance in Valle del Cauca.
