Resumen

El misoprostol es una sustancia análoga de la prostaglandina E1 con propiedades abortivas de eficacia limitada, que se ha asociado con la presencia de alteraciones congénitas en recién nacidos expuestos in utero. Este artículo presenta cinco casos de recién nacidos con defectos congénitos captados a través del proyecto ECLAMC-Colombia y un caso valorado por interconsulta al servicio de Genética en el Hospital Universitario San Ignacio con antecedente de exposición in utero a misoprostol. En esta serie, las alteraciones más frecuentemente descritas asociadas a la exposición a misoprostol fueron pies equinovaros, afección de pares craneales y defectos por reducción de miembros. Aunque persiste la polémica sobre los efectos teratogénicos de este medicamento, es necesario reportar los casos en los que se encuentre al menos una asociación temporal entre exposición y malformaciones congénitas, con el objetivo de recabar evidencia sobre sus potenciales efectos teratogénicos.
