Abstract

Cryptococcosis is a systemic fungal infection caused by the Cryptococcus encapsulated yeast. It is acquired through inhalation of contagious particles (basidiospores), causing a primary pulmonary infection (frequently asymptomatic). Then, it may disseminate to any organ, usually in immunosuppressed patients, with a wide variety of clinical manifestations, including adrenal insufficiency. Disseminated cryptococcosis preferentially affects the CNS, causing meningoencephalitis, a lethal process if untreated. We present a case of a 61-year-old HIV negative male with adrenal insufficiency caused by disseminated cryptococcosis.
