Resumo
La criptococosis es una infección micótica sistémica causada por la levadura encapsulada del género Cryptococcus. Se adquiere por inhalación de partículas infecciosas (basidiosporas) que ocasionan una infección primaria pulmonar (usualmente asintomática). Puede diseminarse a cualquier órgano, habitualmente en pacientes inmunosuprimidos, y producir variedad de manifestaciones clínicas, entre estas insuficiencia adrenal. La forma diseminada tiene predilección del sistema nervioso central y causa meningoencefalitis, un proceso fatal sin tratamiento. El artículo presenta el caso de un hombre de 61 años de edad, VIH negativo, con insuficiencia adrenal como consecuencia de criptococosis diseminada.
