Resumo

El dolor crónico es una de las patologías que afecta con mayor frecuencia a la población general. Su tratamiento requiere usar opciones tanto farmacológicas como no farmacológicas. A pesar del tratamiento, son muchos los pacientes que sufren diariamente de dolor. A partir del conocimiento de la electricidad y de su espectro de ondas eléctricas y magnéticas, surge su aplicación en medicina. Las ondas de radiofrecuencia, al ser aplicadas sobre tejidos, producen modificaciones en su estructura molecular que pueden cambiar el patrón de funcionamiento de los nervios que conducen el dolor. Esta es una revisión sobre el origen de la radiofrecuencia y su aplicación en el tratamiento del dolor.
