Abstract
The concept of the university professor in the field of health is a subject which has not been investigated much to date, which makes it difficult to orient and form teachers. This investigation set out to identify the factors which promote the building of the identity of 29 professors in four programs of a Faculty of Health. The study employed a qualitative methodology, with a hermeneutic focus and analysis grounded on a foundational theory. It found that identity is built from the opportunity to become teachers, which facilitates experience, supports the vocation and transforms the subject, who shapes, as a formative factor, the motivation for that role.
