What is the possible meaning of air as an episteme of our times and contexts? What does the concept of bodies of air suggest? How does art materialize the idea of air as a metaphor? Thinking about air immediately reminds me of something transient, light, amorphous, discontinuous, dispersed, invisible, ephemeral, ungraspable. It suggests to me the image of something “almost” immaterial and “almost” empty, where “almost” implies a constant fall. Vertigo feels like standing at the edge of the abyss, looking down into the abyss but not jumping just yet. I think we are moving towards a metaphorical paradigm of the air. And as we move, the paradox becomes apparent and the forces defending that which is permanent, concrete, continuous and apprehensible are strengthened.
