CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS
Universitas Odontologica, the scientific journal of the Pontifical Xavierian University Dental School from Bogota, Colombia, in partnership with the Iberic-American Observatory of Oral Health Public Policies, is inviting the academic, scientific, and professional community to submit scholarly articles for the thematic dossier Oral Health Public Policies in Iberic-America, which will be included in its issue 80, volume 38, of January-June 2019.
The dossier expects to compile articles derived from analysis of oral health policies in specific population and territorial contexts, or to delve into some facet or theme of the development of national oral health policies, reports from countries in the region or comparative studies. We will also receive: a) texts derived from experiences and analysis of territorial oral health policies in Ibero-American countries, as well as, b) results of research or analysis in the field of oral health management and care-care models of health; c), of oral health articulations in public and social policies in national and local contexts; d) analysis of the political implications of socio-epidemiological contexts at national or regional levels. Finally, e) articles that are oriented to the analysis of the relationship between academia-services and oral health policies will also be accepted.

REMINDER: CALL FOR MANUSCRIPTS for the dossier, “Temporomandibular Disorders, Orofacial Pain, Bruxism, and Sleep Apnea”
Universitas Odontologica, the scientific dental journal of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana's Dental School in Bogotá, Colombia, invites the academic, scientific and professional community to submit original manuscripts for the thematic dossier: Temporomandibular Disorders, Orofacial Pain, Bruxism, and Sleep Apnea, which will be included in volume 42 of 2023.
All predoctoral and graduate students conducting research on TMDs, as well as professionals, educators, and researchers, are invited to submit their studies for evaluation and possible publication in the dossier Temporomandibular Disorders, Orofacial Pain, Bruxism, and Sleep Apnea. Descriptions of cases supported by structured reviews of the literature, reviews of specific topics that use structured and exhaustive analysis of world and Latin American literature, and research in different scopes of application (clinical, basic, population, educational, etc.) for the diagnosis, management, prevention of TMDs will be received.

REMINDER: CALL FOR ARTICLES for dossier “Research Incubators in Dentistry”
Universitas Odontologica, the scientific journal of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana’s Dental School from Bogotá, Colombia, invites the academic, scientific, and professional community to submit original manuscripts for the thematic dossier Research Incubators in Dentistry, which will be published in volume 42 of 2023.
We are receiving original studies with documentary, qualitative, observational, and experimental designs that explore different questions in the various dimensions of the dental profession (clinical, basic and laboratory research, administration, education, etc.). The requirement is that such works are or have been part of a Research Incubator. Likewise, we will receive manuscripts of institutional case studies that relate and analyze the experiences, strategies, practices, and results of Research Incubators in each of the schools/faculties and, even, documents that describe and analyze this model in a more comprehensive way research training in Colombian dental schools. Finally, we will receive papers from countries other than Colombia that have training models similar to the research incubators in dentistry.

CALL for articles for dossier "Advances in Pharmacology and Dentistry"
Universitas Odontologica invites the academic, scientific, and professional community to submit original manuscripts for the thematic dossier Advances in Pharmacology and Dentistry, which will be published in the volume 41 of 2022.
Pharmacology is the discipline that studies the types, composition, properties, action and therapeutic uses of medicines or drugs. In dentistry, pharmacology is essential to treat conditions such as pain, infections, and other diseases that impact overall systemic health. Likewise, pharmacology in dentistry is related to the effects of systemic treatments on people's oral health. In recent decades, with biotechnological development, pharmacology has experienced important advances. The Advances in Pharmacology and Dentistry dossier invites dental researchers to submit original basic laboratory research (for example, microbiology, cytotoxicity, and molecular biology), clinical trials, cohort (longitudinal) studies, case-control studies, systematic reviews of the literature and cases supported by systematic reviews. The manuscripts should be able to answer questions such as: What are the pharmacological interactions that can occur between medicines used in dentistry? What is the best analgesic to treat pain after oral surgery? What are the risks of the new drugs available on the market? What is the effectiveness of new means of suturing wounds in oral surgery? What is the cytotoxicity of the most recently used anti-inflammatories in dentistry? What are the long-term effects of the use of medications in dentistry? Is there evidence on the generation of resistance of microorganisms to the use of antibiotics? How can the prescription of medications in dentistry affect patients with systemic compromise?

CALL FOR ARTICLES dossier "Aging and Dentistry"
Universitas Odontologica invites the academic, scientific, and professional community to submit original manuscripts for the thematic dossier Aging and Dentistry, which will be published in the volume 41 of 2022.
Human aging has become an increasingly important issue globally due to the growth of people’s life expectancy, the challenges it entails within communities and societies, the perception, and roles of the elderly in societal groups, the development of care and support systems, research on clinical practice, biomaterials and mainly restorative techniques, and the advancement of applied basic research to understand and intervene in the biological processes of ageing. As a phenomenon of demographic transition on a global scale, aging produces biological, physical, and emotional changes in people, transforms social structures and poses challenges in sectors such as health, social security, and the entire economy. In many health systems it is established that the dentist must be able to intervene on those alterations to restore functionality and improve the quality of life of the elderly. In this sense, Geriatric Dentistry or Gerodontology should also be part of multidisciplinary teams dedicated to the care of the elderly in community, hospitalization, institutionalized, palliative, and home services. On the other hand, in Gerosciences, that is, those disciplines that seek to identify the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate aging, the concept of personalized aging is seen more as a biological than chronological phenomenon. From this perspective, aging could also affect populations that are chronologically young, but biologically aged and that are susceptible to developing chronic inflammatory conditions such as cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, periodontal disease, and edentulism.

Universitas Odontologica invites the academic, scientific, and professional community to submit original manuscripts for the thematic dossier What is Considered Valid Knowledge in Dentistry, which will be published in the volume 41 of 2022.
This dossier does NOT seek to describe existing research methods, but rather to identify the standards, protocols, and notions of validity that currently support research in the different clinical specialties / subspecialties, biotechnological research, work with communities and public policies, scientometric analyses, bioinformatics, and all those fields that make up professional work and research in dentistry. It also involves states of the art, in terms of the types of questions and the ways of answering them today (research about research).

Pre-publication of two new articles in Universitas Odontologica

The first is “X-linked Hypophosphatemia and its Impact on Hard Tissues of the Oral Cavity. An Integrative Review” by Francina Escobar from Colombia.
The second is “Types of Upper Lip Frenulum Insertion Associated with Diastema in 8-to-15-Year-Old Children of Mocha Canton, Ecuador” by Christian Ocaña and Sandra Macías from Ecuador.
Both are published in English, as we have done since mid-2020 in the magazine. We hope you like them.

Universitas Odontologica - 2020 Report / 2021 Goals
Dear authors and subscribers of Universitas Odontologica. We want to share with you our 2020 report and plans 2021. It includes an overview of our organizational structure, last year’s achievements, our goals for 2021, and the challenges we face ahead. Summary:
- In 2020, 17 articles were published, including two dossiers on Oral Microbiology and Public Health and Dental Education.
- Starting in 2020, the publication frequency went from two semi-annual issues to rolling volume per year.
- From the dossier on Dental Education, all articles began to be published in English, with the goal of seeking international indexing.
- In 2021, besides the regular sections, three dossiers on Aging and Dentistry; Updates on Disability and Dentistry; and Research Designs in Dentistry will be published.
- Please recommend us names of Ibero-Latin American experts to serve as guest editors for these dossiers!

Publication of issue 54-55 of 2004
Dear subscribers of Universitas Odontologica: You should have received a notification of the publication of a new issue. It is not new (# 54-55 of 2004), but we have resumed the digital publication of our previous issues. This is a window for our authors and we hope that it will increase our visibility and the possibility of increasing our citation rates. We have serious objections to measuring quality through impact factors, but we have to play the game with the rules that exist if we want to position ourselves internationally, as is our goal.
