Resumen

Introducción: los trastornos en el control de esfínteres llevan a un detrimento en la calidad de vida de los pacientes que los padecen.

Objetivo: evaluar los resultados del tratamiento con neuroestimulación de raíces sacras en pacientes con incontinencia fecal, urinaria y trastornos sexuales.

Resultados: del 2007 al 2012 se implantaron electrodos en 18 pacientes para estimulación de raíces sacras (6 tenían incontinencia urinaria de urgencia; 4, incontinencia mixta; 4, síndrome urgencia-frecuencia; 2, retención urinaria; 2, incontinencia fecal, y 1, eyaculación retrógrada). Se evaluaron registros de pérdidas urinarias o fecales y cuestionario de calidad de vida. Los mejores resultados se presentaron en los pacientes con síndrome urgencia-frecuencia (todos mejoraron), también en los incontinentes fecales y sorprende los buenos resultados en el paciente con eyaculación retrógrada.

Conclusiones: la estimulación de raíces sacras es una técnica efectiva para el tratamiento de las patologías que producen incontinencia urinaria o fecal, pues se logra mejoría de la calidad de vida superior al 50 %.
