Resumen

Desde los inicios de la medicina, el dolor lumbar ha sido una de las patologías más complejas y frecuentes. Su manejo ha sido uno de los grandes retos a través de la historia, a tal punto que desde el desarrollo del primer endoscopio por Bozzini, en 1806, se ha evaluado la posibilidad de la visualización directa del canal medular para el diagnóstico y tratamiento de entidades causantes de dolor lumbar. En el presente artículo se realiza una revisión del desarrollo histórico y el estado del arte de la endoscopia epidural, enfocado en el desarrollo venidero que permitirá manejos cada vez menos invasivos de las patologías de la columna.
