Abstract

Spleen torsion is an uncommon clinical entity characterized by splenic hypermobility that results from laxity or abnormal development of the supporting ligaments of this organ. A wandering spleen is at risk of torsion of its vascular pedicle. This condition usually presents with symptoms ranging from acute disease, chronic or intermittent symptoms. This article presents the case of a 21 years old woman who consulted with acute abdominal pain, with a history of intermittent abdominal pain, whose imaging findings showed an abnormal anatomic position of the spleen associated with spleen infarction. Splenectomy was carried which confirmed fixation of the spleen only by the gastrosplenic ligament and twisted vascular pedicle.
