Resumo

La neuralgia esencial del nervio trigémino es una de las patologías dolorosas más intensas y perturbadoras. Aunque sus características clínicas y terapéuticas están muy bien especificadas, sigue siendo una patología de difícil control. Fue Nicholas André quien desarrolló por primera vez el concepto de tic douleureux como una patología independiente y diferenciable de otras formas de dolor craneofacial. El análisis del proceso histórico para el conocimiento de la neuralgia del trigémino enriquece las apreciaciones globales del dolor. Este artículo busca revisar el desarrollo del concepto actualmente reconocido de tic douleureux.
